Each pitch will be allocated at least one PM (or more than one, working in unison) whose role is to ensure the timely start of each match, to record the scores and to ensure that the results are properly recorded at central control. The PM will also act as the WRFCs representative at each pitch and a point of reference for the coaches, players and parents of the visiting clubs. By providing a point of reference at each pitch the PMs will help ensure that visitors to the WRFC festival feel that communication is strong and it has been a well organised and controlled event. Technical issues will be dealt with by the tournament referee. Briefing There will be a briefing for ALL PMs at 9.45 on the morning of the tournament outside the club house. It may also be beneficial for at least one PM from each age group to listen in to the referees briefing to take place immediately afterwards to assist in the clarification of any rules. Equipment required a pen or pencil! a clip board if possible tournament programme (to be supplied) a high visibility vest (to be supplied) The Role 1. Ensure that games start on time. The bane of all tournaments is kick-off creep. A little delay between each game can accumulate into a couple of hours by the end of the day, which is inappropriate for the players and a bore for the adults. The timetable is tight, but achievable, and it is the PMs prime goal to ensure that the two teams and the relevant referee are ready for kick-off at the appropriate time, every time. Know which team is which and who the refs are, including having their mobile nos. Chase the previous teams off the park (they tend to de-brief at the centre line!) Chase the new teams on you will have to be firm! Keep to the schedule! 2. Record the results of each game. It is the job of the referee to keep score during the game but I recommend each pitch marshall keeps a separate record to cross check with the referee at the end of each game. Some refs are better than others at recording scores (!). At the end of the game, the referee should confirm the score with the PM and record it on the PMs programme. The referees will be briefed to that effect, but it is the PMs responsibility to confirm the score with the ref at the end of the game. In all age groups (except U12s), the scores are to be recorded as the number of tries scored (NOT five points for a try). The PM must also pass the scores to the control tent to maintain the league table for his pitch so that at any time it is clear how many points each team has accumulated. At the conclusion of the pool games the PMs will gather at the control point to confirm the league positions and the teams to play in the play-offs. The same will happen at the conclusion of the play-offs immediately prior to the prize-giving. Guidance on scoring and dealing with draws is in the programme. 3. Act as a representative of the Club and a reference point. It is important to the Club that we are seen to run an efficient and well-organised event providing fun and good competition for the players. The PMs are in a position to represent the club and provide communication to the players, parents and coaches. They should ensure they are highly visible at the pitches and be prepared to answer questions, make decisions and provide guidance to attendees. There is an appointed tournament referee on the day to make any decisions necessary in relation to the RFU Continuum or the rules of the Game and each PM should have a note of his mobile number in case of disputes. In relation to the organisation of the tournament, the event coordinator will also be available help find solutions. In relation to the organisation at the pitch, the PM should make the necessary decisions and communicate them promptly. Should any disputes arise it is important to involve the event organiser and tournament referee early to avoid escalation. Summary Boss them about to get the games started on time, every time. Record the scores. Be on hand at the pitch to help point out where the loos are.
