Hockey started up again in the form of Stockton Brunswick locally. The same names eventually played for this club between the wars and we first affiliated to Durham County in 1930 and took our present title in 1939 with games against Royal Signals, Durham Colleges, Sunderland Nomads, Bishop Auckland, Darlington, Norton, Billingham Synthonia, and West Hartlepool. The Second World War ceased play but more hockey was played in the services during this time. After the Second World War Horace Gale recruited old and new members to play on Preston Cricket field in 1946. He was also President in 1950 when the club moved to play at Stockton C.C which is still the location of our clubhouse today. During the 1980s the transition from playing on grass to astro turf all weather surfaces took place and for many years Stockton played at the Tilery Sports Complex. During 2003 an application for lottery funding allowed the construction of a brand new astro turf pitch at the nearby Egglescliffe School in Eaglescliffe and this remains the home ground of the club to this date. Please note that in the 2008/2009 season the club grew to 6 teams and so we sometimes have to also use the pitch at Northfield School in Billingham in order to accommodate all home games on a Saturday. Teams Stockton Hockey Club is proud to be represented by at least 8 teams each weekend playing in various different leagues. There are 6 male and two female teams and in recent seasons we have registered over 140 members making Stockton the largest Hockey Club in the Teesside region. The clubs first team plays in the English Northern League 1 and as such travels as far as Manchester and Sheffield for some of its matches. Our 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5t Teams all play within the North North East Hockey League structure. The clubs 6th team plays in the North East Conference (South Region) League and tends to play most its games in the Teesside region with the occasional journey only as far north as say Gateshead or Jesmond. We also have a ladies section that is two teams in strength. Association with Local Schools Anyone is welcome to join Stockton Hockey Club. Historically most of our young players have tended to come from the following local schools: Grangefield School, Stockton Egglescliffe School, Eaglescliffe Yarm School, Yarm Red House School, Norton The club enjoys good relations with these schools and we recognise that the future of the club is dependant on our young members. The Club is hence committed to providing a safe, effective and child friendly hockey environment. Hockey Development Umpiring and coaching courses are run regularly each year for suitable and interested members and some financial support is usually offered where appropriate. More courses are being planned for the new season so please let us know if you are interested. The Clubhouse & All Weather Pitch Locations The Clubhouse: Due to the clubs long standing association with the Cricket Club our club house is still at the cricket club. Often teams meet here when travelling to away games. Club members are expected to return to the Clubhouse after matches in order to entertain their oppositions and enjoy a meal and pay their match fees. Address: Stockton Cricket Club House, 52A Oxbridge Avenue Stockton Lane TS18 4JF The Clubhouse is a licensed premises and after matches on Saturdays the bar is open and ran by professional staff. Home All Weather Pitch (astro turf) Locations: We have 2 pitches used for home games and the details of these are as follows: VenueAddressChanging Facilities?Parking Facilities? Your team captain will inform you about location each week. Training Schedule (2010/2011) Ladies Section: WhenWhoTimeVenueTuesday eveningsJuniors6:00 pm 7:00 pmEgglescliffe SchoolTuesday eveningsSeniors7:00 pm 8:00 pmEgglescliffe School Mens Section: WhenWhoTimeVenueMonday eveningsJunior (young) Players7:00 pm 8:00 pmEgglescliffe SchoolMonday eveningsSenior (adult) Players7:00 pm 9:00 pmEgglescliffe School For the mens training the senior players who attend tend to be from the higher teams and the contact upon arrival is the 1st Team Captain. The juniors training is provided by a handful of the senior players including the 4th Team Captain Lee OConner and other players such as Phil Longley and Paul Stevenson. Should you attend training for the first time please just ask to speak to one of these adults. The aim of the training is to have fun, work on developing stick skills and typically play a short game to finish off. Fixtures & Selection Fixtures: The full programme of all the Clubs fixtures each season will appear on the Notice Board at the Club House near the start of the season. Some paper copies are available too if you see your team captain. The mens games are almost always on Saturdays and the start time will typically vary between 11:30 and 16:00. Selection: For the mens teams a selection meeting takes place every Sunday evening at the Club House. This is attended by all 6 Captains and the Club Chairman. Captains provide feedback of the weekends game and the result. Captains also highlight any significant performances from individual players who may be ready for playing at a higher level team. Likewise players who have a poor discipline record, poor conduct or fail to turn up without informing their captain are likely to be discussed and potentially dropped to a lower level team. The selected teams are placed on the Notice Board at the Club House by the end of the Selection Meeting on a Sunday evening. Captains will then contact their selected team members (typically by telephone or e-mail) in the early days of the following week to check availability. To summarise the selection process is primarily driven by the players playing performance although other factors such as discipline and consistent availability to play each week can also have an influence. Conduct of MembersThe Club recognises the ever increasing pressures placed on all concerned in hockey through the ever more competitive nature of the game, and is committed to maintaining the good disciplinary record it has achieved. We each all have an individual duty and responsibility for our own discipline. It is also important that the senior and more experienced players set a good example of behaviour to the young members. The club does have a detailed Disciplinary Code (see club website). However in summary the club simply expects our players to treat the umpires and the opposition players with respect. Finance Subscriptions: The 2010/11 season annual subscriptions are due by 31 October 2011 and it is essential we obtain all subs by this date. The subs for the 2010 / 2011 season are as follows: Playing member 105 Non Playing member 15 Students (18+) / Unwaged Players 55 Students (<18) 25 The easiest way to pay is by cash or cheque. Please hand this over to your Team Captain or directly to the Club Treasurer Mark Blackmore. Cheques should be made payable to Stockton Hockey Club. Match Fees: The match fee charges for the 2010 / 2011 season are as follows: Playing member 7 Students (18+) / Unwaged Players 5 Students (<18) 3 Clothing / Club Strip Colours The club strip is a white shirt, black shorts and red socks. The ladies wear the same colour strip but with a black skirt. Shirts should be numbered and the number should be unique to the player. New members can initially play in general sports clothing that is similar in colour to that stated above. Eventually though most members want to buy their own club strip. This is done directly with a sports supplier called Tempest Sports via the internet. The prices are approximately as follows shirt (18), shorts(16) and socks (6). To access Tempest Sports website visit our club website, click on the About Us, then click on Links and then simply click on the link referring to tempest sports that is under the external links section. Please note that there is also an Excel Spread Sheet of players names and your allocated shirt number on our club website so you get the right number printed on your new shirt! If you are a new member please see your team captain to get a shirt number issued to you. This should automatically happen once you have completed a Membership Form but if not see your team captain who will contact Mark Blackmore. Other Paperwork / Forms You should be aware of some of the other paperwork you may need to fill in yourself to become a member or you may see your Captain completing on match days. Some of the main forms / documents the club uses are as follows: Membership Form filled in each year by all members so we have your latest contact details and your date of birth etc Parental Consent Form only required for players under 18 year of age Match Cards you will probably see Captains and Umpires signing these after the game Match Day Accounts Sheet a record that captains complete of match fees less any expenses that is given to Club Treasurer with that week cash. Meetings & Events throughout the Season It is worthwhile having an awareness of the following meetings / events that typically take place during the season: Monthly Committee Meeting focus is on the running of the club and is attended by the people listed on the back page of this document plus a few other people. Weekly Selection Meeting selection of players for the following week. Various Social Events one example might be a music band and pie / peas at the club etc and another example might be a games night with all members welcome. Annual General Meeting (AGM) election of key personnel such as captains and the issue of various awards / trophies (eg. Best Player of the Season). To be attended by all members. End of Season Dinner Night an excellent event which typically includes a 3 course dinner, drinks and entertainment. All members welcome. Communications & Key Contacts Newsletter communications: Bob Hill produces a useful one page newsletter two or three times each season which is placed on the club notice board and posted on the club website so watch out for this.
