We welcome qualified participants that would like to come to Sarnia for summer 2012.  Sarnia is a water sports centre, being located adjacent to the longest fresh-water sand beach in the world. If a guest thinks that they'd like to come to Sarnia, they should let Sarnia Rugby know as early as possible as to when, ASAP. We can receive guests whenever they like. Please keep in mind that we do offer what we do, and that if interested people have other worthy candidates that they'd recommend, we can extend the same offerings. On average we receive up to 4 guests per season. Before coming to Sarnia, we expect that our guests might do some homework regarding Sarnia. We are a small club in a small city, located in South-Western Ontario, Canada. We are a border community located at the base of Lake Huron and are about 1 hour from Detroit, Michigan, USA, and 2 hours from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Our club was established in 1958. We provide the below sites if they are of interest: HYPERLINK "http://www.sarnia.ca/" \t "_blank" www dot sarnia dot ca www dot lambtoncounty dot com www dot sarnialambton dot on dot ca HYPERLINK "http://www.sarniasaints.com" www dot sarniasaints dot com We would like guests to be prepared to take a lead in or to assist in coaching, either assisting a Club Coach or our people that are volunteering to coach our womens, u19girls, u18boys, or our u20men. Working with the mens side is primary to our club. Readers should understand that a guest could very well be teaching 18 to 24 year old men or women as well as attending at mens’ games each week.   We would want to know that guests are available to play on one of our mens sides if needed. (Guests have to be near game fit upon arrival, & not unable to play during the season.) As all clubs, we never guarantee playing time, and we don’t like to bump Sarnia players from the pitch either. That said, with the modern need to plan for 22 players on the pitch each match, and our commitment to Rugby Ontario to field at least 2 mens sides, we may call upon our guests to play each week.   If possible, we’d like that guests be available by late May or earlier, as we start our league play then and continue thru to September.   We use a formula for flight costs, based on 90% of cost, prorated against how many of the league matches a guest is in Sarnia for, whether to play or to coach. We reimburse our portion of flight costs when guests are in Sarnia, and will take care of getting people to & from airport; Detroit, Hamilton or Toronto.   We provide excellent accommodation arrangements. We take care of housing expenses. Typically, a secure bed & room, kitchen & laundry facilities, and plenty of hot water are provided. We take care of Rugby Canada registration and catastrophic injury players insurance, (while on the pitch).   We don't commit to pay for food or drink. Our members are known to demonstrate enthusiastic and generous hosting skills. Guests from Europe often find things inexpensive here.  As for part-time employment while in Canada, we think that some European citizens can work legally while on vacation. We will try to help guests find summer work once they arrive. How much a person can make, depends upon how hard they work.   We can't guarantee jobs. However, we will assist in finding a job once guests are here; it's up to guests to contact by phone, email or in person a Canadian High Commission to confirm a legal work status while in Canada, as a Student or non-student, on Holiday, staying with friends. If a guest were to indicate what kind of work they've done, we'd let Sarnia employers know before they land so as to assist a job search. Regarding summer employment, we refer interested people to the below web site that addresses issues for post-secondary students, (beyond grade 12-high school; i.e. college or university aged). There are no provisions for high school aged foreign nationals to legally work in Canada. More information may be available at: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-offcampus.asp We think that some nationals can legally visit the US for up to 90 days without a visa by car from Sarnia. Interested people will find more detail at the below web site: http://www.consular.canada.usembassy.gov/index.asp   We thank all rugby people for their interest and ask that they forward a resume and CV indicating coaching experience and qualifications and any questions that they may have. If upon reply, guest applicants & The Sarnia Rugby Club agree to a guest player arrangement, Sarnia will confirm in writing via email. We like people to come to Sarnia; we know that guests and our players can have a very fun and rewarding international summer experience.    Once an applicant indicates that they intend to come to Sarnia, either for an extended stretch or for as short as a 4or5 league game stint, we'll get the ball rolling here and will most definitely announce imminent arrivals to our club members.  If the above ideas are intriguing and are something that a reader would like to be involved in, we ask them to please send an expression of interest via email this week.
