That they want to develop their rugby skills playing for Frome Rugby Club. Players will make the best use of coaching time by: listening to the coach; doing what the coach asks them to do; arriving in time to start the coaching session promptly at 10 a.m.; wearing enough warm clothing on cold days. Players are responsible for maintaining and improving their fitness and strength throughout the year. It is not possible to achieve this during weekly coaching sessions. They should also practice their skills. Players will respect and behave courteously towards: their opponents; their fellow team members; their coaches; visitors; other club members. Players will respect the referee and thank him/her after the game Players will ensure that they have: suitable boots with Kite-marked aluminium studs; suitable clothing (red socks, black shorts, shirt, all marked with their name); a gum shield; a towel and a change of clothing; ;and that changing rooms are free of mud. Players are responsible for helping to gather up equipment after coaching sessions and matches and for helping to put it away tidily. The Role of the Coach The coach: acts as a teacher; represents Frome Rugby Club and the game of Rugby; advises on and sets standards of behaviour and promotes the ethos of the game; should progress through the stages of the RFUs coaching certificate. is the point of communication with the players and their parents; represents his/her age group on the committee. The Responsibilities of the Coach To teach rugby skills and to guide on appropriate player behaviour. To supervise the players from the beginning to the end of the coaching session (subject to the players arriving on time and remaining with the group until the end of the session). To take care of club kit. To bring the first aid kit to each session. To plan the content of each coaching session. To set out the training area. To supervise the players on the journey to and from away matches (unless the players are travelling with a third party) and to deliver them to Frome Rugby Club. To welcome visiting teams. Personal Qualities of a Coach The coach should be: aware of the different needs of different players; approachable, friendly, patient and fair; able to find the right balance of praise and criticism; able to control individual players and the group; adequately trained in the skills, techniques and rules of the game. What is Expected of Parents? Ensuring that their child complies with his/her responsibilities as a player. Helping with the laundering of team kit. Supporting the Club and the children by being constructive and encouraging. Respecting the referee, opponents, visitors, coaches and players. Supporting the teams especially on match days. Helping with transport to away matches. Understanding that volunteers run the club. Not allowing dogs near pitches or practice areas. When there is a problem with the Club or its officials The player or parent should talk to the coach, giving time to investigate, consider the problem or deal with it. The coach can call upon the support of the coaching co-ordinator. The player or parent should talk direct to the coaching co-ordinator. The player or parent should talk direct to the chairperson of the Frome Junior Rugby committee who will decide whether the matter should be referred through the Club disciplinary procedure. Every effort will be made to give a response within a reasonable time and in an appropriate way. When there is a problem with a players behaviour The coach will talk to the player to try to resolve the problem. In the event that this does not resolve the problem, the coach will talk to the parent(s) of the player. Although every attempt is made to provide coaching that reflects the individuality of children, the club reserves the right to withhold coaching from particular individuals if the coaching of others suffers as a result of their presence. In the unlikely event of a player being disciplined at a formal hearing, the player or family must pay any disciplinary fee or fine.
